Bushido Top 5 - Terrain Cards

Ok, being honest, I'm probably not qualified to name the best Terrain Cards in Bushido, so really the purpose of this post is to highlight what I think are good terrain pieces and get you thinking about using terrain if its available to you.

No. 5 Gorinto (The Descension)

Not to be confused with the Temple of Ro-Kan's Gorinto, the Tengu's Gorinto is a slight improvement in that it enables you to allocate 1 Ki to any model as opposed to just non-soulless models. You could of course use it to top up your Tengu or Tribesmen, but the real benefit of this piece is that it enables you to keep your kami in the game. This means that Kami of Eternal Earth are going to be really hard to shift (as they naturally regenerate Ki anyway) or alternatively, you can replenish Kami of Reflection after they have used the Mirror Ki Feat.

No. 4 Cavern Hole (Savage Wave)

Summon from the Shadows is a really pesky Ki feat for your opponent, but one way they can get round it is to focus on clearing a particular area of Bakemono so that there aren't any of the critters around to summon their friends. You can counter this approach by deploying a Cavern Hole near to where you know you will be wanting to concentrate your Bakemono hordes i.e. near an Idol or even within a Zone (yes, terrain from terrain cards can be deployed within Scenario zones - more on this later).

No. 3 Haunted Well (Cult of Yurei)

The Cult of Yurei focus heavily on causing Fear tests to ensure your opponent's models are a quivering wreck whenever you engage them in melee and indeed to prevent them from drawing swords against you. Unfortunately, there are lots of annoying traits like Courage, Bravery, Leadership that increase their chances of passing their Fear tests. The beauty of the Haunted Well is that these traits can't be used within 6" creating a nexus of terror where only Fearless models will be brave enough to tread.

No. 2 Roadside Idol (Temple of Ro-Kan)

Perhaps more so than any other faction, the Monks of the Temple of Ro-Kan really really love Ki. The problem is that they get through a lot of it. Focusing is of course one option to replenish Ki quickly, but this comes at the cost of an entire turn sitting around meditating while the opposing forces run amok through their pretty temple gardens. The Roadside Idol allows them to Focus as a Simple Ki Feat rather than a Complex one which in turn grants them an additional activation to make use of their recharged batteries.

No. 1 Rice Bale Barricades (Ronin)

I keep having to check that Rice Bale Barricades only cost 1 Rice, as it seems ludicrously cheap for what they offer. They can be used as cover to enable your models to creep closer to the center of the board, as a blocking piece to stop your opponent flanking and/or surprising you and even to effectively remove a 4" scenario zone from the board enabling you to concentrate your attention on the other two. It really is a valuable terrain piece and well worth picking up if you have 1 rice to spare (and let's face it you probably do).
